Vettel, who started from pole in his Red Bull RB7, led throughout, barring the pit stops, and eventually finished 3.2 seconds up on Jenson Button’s McLaren. Nick Heidfeld took the final place on the podium for Renault, hanging onto P3 despite a late challenge from Mark Webber, who lost his KERS before the start of the race.

Felipe Massa led home the Ferraris in fifth, with Fernando Alonso only sixth, having had to make an extra stop after misjudging a move in the closing stages on Lewis Hamilton, which damaged his front wing.

Hamilton eventually finished one lap behind his nemesis, while Kamui Kobayashi was eighth and Michael Schumacher ninth.

Paul di Resta took the final point in tenth.
